If you read my prior post on this subject and look at the histograms of
the actual images you will see that the tonal range is less than that
which can be captured in a single JPEG. No HDR merging required.

IMHO, bracketing for exposure is an old, film based paradigm which is no
longer necessary. You now have in all of your cameras the finest light
meter ever invented... the histogram. Rather than taking 3 or more
bracketed images of unknown accuracy why not take one test image (in
manual mode), evaluate the exposure, make corrections if needed and then
take the real shot. But, in this case, a glance at the histogram of the
first shot should have shouted out... I've got it. And most of the time
you will on the first try. And manual mode works well in this
environment since the exposure is unlikely to change much for a while.
In this particular case it looks like the photo is taken in late
afternoon under very overcast skies. You could turn the camera in any
direction and the exposure will be the same... except that the meter
might (incorrectly) argue with that. And since the meter might
(incorrectly) argue with that why give it the chance to make an error
when you know you've already got it right.

Leave exposure bracketing to the film camera when you don't have a
proper meter. You'll have a lot fewer images to discard.
