Read this paper on diffraction limits in lenses regarding the diameter 
of the Airy disk and the effect of its size relative to pixel 
dimensions.  Then see table 3 near the end of the page which gives 
maximum resolution for different sized sensors for wavelengths in the 
red, green and blue parts of the spectrum.
