I don't think I'd be the least bit bothered by what you seem to find 
troublesome.  My favorite photographer is Clyde Butcher. 
<http://clydebutcher.com/online-gallery.cfm>  I could look at these 
images one by one all day long and never long for some underlying theme 
or sense of direction (whatever that is).  I would suggest that you pose 
your criticism as "I would have preferred...".  Not all of us see the 
world the same way.
