Yes, there is indeed an economic slowdown. Mnay of these locomotives pulled 
trains of Chinese junk across the US, and that doesn't include the waves of 
cameras, all well-made, I'm sure.

Many of the stored locomotives are just saved for future upswings, but many 
are also ones that are involved in the thinning of the herd. Some are old 
and unreliable, and others are too hungry, to be replaced by more efficient 
models. Most all railroads are in this process. Much as many customers are 
laying off employees, the railroads are laying off locomotives.
