Didn't the B-58 have an uniquely powerful sonic boom? I grew up along Lake
Michigan and remember extremely strong sonic booms up through the time the
B-58 was retired. They used to head northward out of Indiana up along the
lake shore.

You could usually identify the boom of a fighter jet, but there were some
big beasts up there that would shake walnuts out of the trees and crack
windows. This is going back in memory here, but wasn't there one of these
planes that had an unusual double-boom where the second one was hugely more
powerful?

They eventually changed the rules that required something like 20 miles from
population to go supersonic, but back in those days the nuke guys did their
own thing and they cut the corner going up the lake, so instead of 20 miles
out, they were buzzing the lighthouses.
