When I got out of active duty and transitioned into the Air National
Guard, my specialty wasn't available, so I had to cross train into
inertial nav. Worked on F-100s and A-7s in South Dakota. Chris...
Remember the PMD's in aircraft of comparable vintage? What an
electro/mechanical Rube Goldberg...

When I moved back out here to the left coast, the only place doing
inertial nav work was McChord. GM/Delco had exclusive contracts with
the AF at that time, and even the regulars couldn't work on the systems
in 130s or 141s as I recall. Took me about three months to figure out I
was spending a weekend a month sitting on my hands. I bailed.

Hindsight being 20/20, I should have transitioned into the Guard unit
band that my brother belonged to. The retirement alone (medical
benefit) would have been just about priceless right about now.
