Epson's big boys actually are better on ink, or so I've been told. But then you
have to do a whale of a lot of printing to realize the savings. The 220ml carts
I buy for the 4800 are $81 each. But I've heard and read the Epson 38-series is
kind of a wonder printer. Hits a real sweet spot. Won't do roll paper, but does
a fine job with sheets. I've even heard some folks have bought one just to
print black and white. Seems it's another of those sweet spots, like the old
Epson 2- series scanners were with 4x5 sheet film. If my 4800 were to crap out
on me tomorrow, I'd most likely replace it with a 3880 rather than the new 4880.
