I the far southeast corner Iowa has copperheads, in the  south and east 
two types of Massasaugas (pygmy rattlers) as well as Timber rattlers. 
These guys are smaller but watch out they don't gang up on you.  :-)
A T-45 flashed in the eyes will scare them away.
