Nice shot indeed.
I am also amazed about the frequency of the PAD/PAW shots Nathan
produces. I am not wondering however. He takes his camera(s) everywhere
ant takes photos from people at work too. He lives quite close to his
work, so commuting time is not a biggie. That leaves more time for
family and photography. As he works for the government indeed (as I do
for the Dutch government) he might have a workweek of 36 hours or choose
to work 40 hours and have an extra holiday for every two weeks worked.
He could use that to have half a day of every week or a whole day off
every two weeks.
As for myself I really like the idea of taking the camera everywhere,
but I do have to commute. I leave home at 6.30AM to come home at 6.15 PM
(or later whene a meeting is held a bit later). I already take my laptop
and some papers everywhere during the week to work in the train. Not
much room left in the rucksack to pack the E-1 of E-3 with one lens.
Maybe some day I will get an additional E-4xx with simple lens for that
cause. I will have to leave my bread at home then though an buy lunch at
the office. I am stil wondering however if I will be able to make some
shots while commuting. I am not that much of a people photographer and
train stations and trains will have lots of people in them. Can immagine
that most people do not like to being photographed early in the morning
when they ar commuting to their work.
Just checked my work schedule (I work 4x9=36h one week and 4x9+8=44h the
other week)
Mandatory free days for 2009: newyear, Good Friday, Easter Monday,
Koninginnedag/Queens day (April 30), Liberation day (May 5), Ascencion
day, Whit Monday, Christmas day =8 days off (December 26 is a free day
too but on a Saturday this year)
Extra free days because the governmental offices are closed for 2009:
January 2, May 22 = 2 days off
I have a yearly amount of 176 hours to spend on holidays, which would be
about 4,5 weeks.
Because I work an average of 40 hours a week I also have 220 hours to
spend for the difference betweek working 36 and 40 hours. Our government
wants their employees to work for an average of 36 hours a week. Sure
that is a lot of free days, but most are available for people in
commercial positions in the Netherlands also. In many companies however
there is a choice to make between more holidays and more money. Many
commercial workers choose the extra money from that offering. If they
made that choice, they should not complain about lack of holidays.
I know that on the Western side of the Atlantic these figures are quite
different. I have heard about people being able te get tw weeks off per
year only and that only after they have worked for that company for at
least a certain amount of time. Yes, I know that when it comes to days
off we in Europe but especially some countries in Europe, including the
Netherlands, have nothing to complain about and live in great whealth.
You won't hear me complaining :-)
