I have a brother who has lived in the Chicago metro area for 30 years,
but it's no good asking him because he doesn't go downtown, ever.
What I like to do is pretty much the same thing, over and over, which
is to visit the museums and things downtown upon purchasing a City
Pass:

It's a good value even if you don't have time for all the items. Try
to get uptown in the evening for some good Italian and a blues club.
