All things considered, my guess is he'd rather have been installing
and servicing docks and such. As I recall, Anzio was no picnic on the
beach. In fact, my favorite war movie of all time, "A Walk in the
Sun," started at Anzio. (I think. It was a landing in Italy, I do
recall that much.)
