Hi,
I'm new to the list and would like to say hello. My friend and I used
to take photos of each other and the world with a Praktika that had a
lens, if you see what I mean. We would put ISO400 into it and think we
were pushing barriers. At some point I got a Pentax MZhmm hmm I don't
remember. It had a zoom lens and we had some fun with that too. I lost
both of those in a fire in 2001 and didn't resume my photo pursuits
until I was made redundant in 2007 and nabbed a Canon A80 from the
fallout. Boy did that rekindle something. I have had so much fun with
it. To the extent of buying 2 more from ebay, just in case. I bought a
Canon G6 too, but it didn't ignot my passion as much as the A80 had.
But then on to DSLR, something I tried to resist, what with the money
and all. But there it was, in my hands. The Canon 40D and the 17-85mm
lens. £800. Then the 60mm macro. £200. Then the 10-22mm. £499. Then a
second hand 70-300mm. £600. I got so fed up with it. Too much money
spent and grr, I just wasn't using it as much as the A80. And to
explore the possibilities? Another £200 here or more likely £700. I
sold it and the lenses too. I bought a second hand Voigtlander Bessa
(R3A) with a 40mm lens. I'd spent some of my money and took some pics.
Unfortunately the rangefinder was misaligned and I sent it back. It's
gone to Japan, I don't know when it will return. This was back in
January. So, in the meantime I was looking for a camera to use and
remembered my friend talking about how his Olympus camera had been
stolen and when the insurance company came to a replacement he (how
likely is this?) forgot that it was an OM40 and told them it was an
OM4, which he duly received. He raved about his OM4, its size, its
ease of use. So I bought one from a secondhand shop in Bath. Then I
bought some lenses from both ebay and some shops round Bloomsbury. I
haven't looked back. Who can say they can walk out with a camera and
three or four lenses and not need a suitcase? Who? I ask you. It's
been such an experience. Tonight I went out with a 24mm and took
photos of closed shops/restaurants after thinking I'd be taking
pictures of drunks and buses.
So that's me.
Hello list.
All the best,
Nic
