This image has a wide array of colors. It somehow doesn't seem to have
quite caught the full glint of light from the pieces of red glass in the
warm light that I remember. Still, it has a wide range of colors and I
like it a lot.

Not much more to tell than the Wikipedia entry.

"In the early 20th century, Fort Bragg residents threw their household
trash over these cliffs. They discarded glass, appliances, and even
cars. The land was owned at that time by the Union Lumber Company, and
locals referred to it as "The Dumps." Sometimes fires would be lit to
reduce the size of the trash pile.

In 1967, the /North Coast Water Quality Board/ and city leaders closed
the area and various cleanup programs were undertaken through the years
to correct the damage.

Over the next several decades the pounding waves cleansed the beach,
wearing down the discarded glass into the small, smooth, colored
trinkets that cover the beach today."

At first sight, the rocks and sea are much more interesting than the
beach. Get close with hand and knees, binoculars or camera lens, and
everything changes. Perhaps especially in the late light when we were
there, it becomes a fairyland of shape and color.
