I did the earlier version of this rebate via B&H. Rebates were the same,
but retail at both outlets was the same and higher than this Adorama
3-pack pricing. Price per GB was significantly lower with 4GB cards, so
that's what I did.

In any case, I don't find "the CF solution" alone very attractive.
Although we missed last year, we are hopping for another of our 3
weekish trips to New England this fall.

With 25GB of CF cards, I might be able to cover the whole trip. But,
little as all those images may be of value to anyone else, they are
valuable to me, so I want to take precautions to maximize the likelihood
that they will return with me.

I agree that CF cards are probably the most reliable medium for short
term storage. Nevertheless, they do fail, rare as the occurrence may be.
Higher risks are posed by loss, theft and simple operator error.

So I go with a triple redundancy approach.

1. Avoid erasing cards until all are full.
2. Back-up to Fastrax
3. Back-up to notebook.
4. Carry these different storage devices in separate places.

Like Nathan, and I suspect many others, I would carry the notebook
computer on such a trip even if I were shooting film. With a long trip,
it's far simpler to deal with banks and bills on-line than otherwise. CC
statements can arrive and grace periods expire before I get back home.

The Fastrax is small and light, so it's contribution to overall baggage
is negligible. Plus, I already own both. :-)

I suppose with current CF card prices, I could replace the Fastrax with
additional 8GB cards, back up the other cards to them and send them home
as they are full. Not yet.

Indeed! Show us the pretties.
