I looked at his galleries.  Some very nice images.  I don't think they
are comparable with yours because he has chosen mainly to display
images in which the lighting is either studio or otherwise very
carefully controlled.

In general shooting under your conditions, I'd try using -2/3 exposure
compensation.  You might have to bring up the shadows in
post-processing.

With the E-3 I use Studio 2 for RAW development as it is better than
any alternative I have tried.  I also set Gradation to "auto".  In RAW
development I always check to see how gradation looks when switched to
"Normal" in software.  The Auto setting in gradation always seems to
pull the pixels to the right without further moving the highlights in
that direction.  I don't always like the look, but sometimes I do and
it's nice to get it done in RAW development.  It seems to combine well
with the use of negative exposure compensation.
