Thanks, Chris! Seems like folks are still doing it, especially when
having kids, just waiting to test the relationship before getting into it.

My Mormon nephews and niece supposedly waited to enjoy any of the
traditional perks of marriage. :-) My other nephew and now wife had
their 2 or 3 year old son as ring bearer. Several years and a daughter
later, it's still working, so more power to them.

The other niece might have been wise to wait the first time. She married
an Italian guy in Italy. After he chickened out at the idea of children,
divorce Italian style meant she and her new partner had a kid and
another on the way before their respective divorces came through. They
did get married as soon as legally possible.

Another reason I can see to wait and be sure, at least around here, is
the ridiculous amounts people spend on marriages these days. Tens of
thousands of dollars for something that lasts only a few months, or
maybe a year or two, sure seems wasteful to me, and I've seen more than one.

I suppose the one tentatively scheduled for next year for my son will be
another extravaganza. His intended is an only girl and I can already
feel the vibes coming off her mother. Engagement party is Sunday after
next. Carol asked if we are expected to bring a gift, as well as the pot
luck dish. The thought had never crossed my mind. Is that part of the
new paradigm? Hell, my Caesar salad is special enough!

At least Nick and Lauren have been living together for a while and seem
very well suited. Thank [insert favorite Deity here] he didn't marry the
last girlfriend! At least I like this one. :-D

Old Moosie was divorced back before the wheel and widowed 20 years ago.
He's got something soooo good going now maybe he's a little leery of
changing anything. :-) Never say never. ;-)
