Hello all,
Just 3 hours ago I completed a journey of nearly 8 hours back from Central
Otago,
to Christchurch, in my severely loaded little Toyota Starlet of 1983 vintage.
With
this desktop computer on board as well. So I'm away from those marvellous
landscapes for a few weeks again. It took about an hour to unload !
Great little car; cruising at 60 MPH (100 km/h) where possible, it has an
economy
of around 44 miles per Imperial gallon of 91 octane petrol. I do the trip for
about
$50 NZ. I learned recently that a Porsche Cayenne would use about $ 550 worth
for the same trip ....
I was going to write that I have decided that 10MP digital cameras just can't
cut the
mustard with landscapes, and was going to post some images to explain my line
of
reasoning. Maybe I'll still do that.
Then news came in, in my e-mail downloads today , that my infatuation
(beginning
with "O") is ready for me. Totally manual and a bit like an OM1, but more
bigger all
round, if you get the drift. Maybe a lot bigger. I hope to have more to report
on this
in 10 days' time - or so.
It's been a rough month financially, and this Infatuation will cost about as
much as
the replacement main shaft for the fuel injection pump of my Range Rover just
did
...
Doesn't help, however, I'm sure I'll cope ...

And Chuck commented on a haze in the background and wondered what he was
actually seeing.
Moose has dragged more out of that image than I ever thought possible. The
grass
is getting close to correct. That blue haze is actually a scrub fire that a
neighbour
has had smouldering away for about a week, and he made it more obvious than it
was to my eyes in real life. There is more smoke to the right in the form of a
thin
vertical plume from a house chimney.
I'm amazed.
I have not tried the software that came with the camera. Maybe I should.
I have not taken any notice of the histograms; maybe I should, now. And I have
finally figured out how to get the INFO display to behave itself nicely.
I'm not sure what to do about RAW files. I'll give it more thought.
Yes, I did use a tripod for those shots (Gitzo Studex 320 bought 25 years ago
from
B&H and posted out - complete with Bogen/Manfrotto 3-way head and hexagonal
QR plate ... :-)) )
I have heard of people combining the best parts of 2 images but have NO idea
how
to do that. One of the reasons I stick with this ( crappy in the minds of some
people) 2nd hand computer is that it came with Photoshop V7 already installed.
