If I could be reasonably assured that the Digital Leica M9 (?) would be
viable for 10+ years, I'd probably find some way to justify the purchase.
When you amortize the investment out over 10 years, the money spent on the
camera (and a humble selection of lenses) is actually pretty reasonable--if
not a bargain.

10 years in the digital revolution is about 200 dog years--where a camera is
woefully outdated in six months. I'm hoping that we are finally seeing a
leveling off of the technology in a way that cameras will hold their value
longer.

I've been very impressed with the results of the Leica M8 (and 8.2). People
like Nathan are showing that in the right hands, these cameras are really
capable of the "special something" that is missing in today's digital
photography.

A Leica digital "M" body with full-frame AND live-view would probably
satisfy my 95% rule rather nicely. LOL, who needs a big honkin telephoto or
zoom lens when the optics are near perfect and you have enough pixels to
crop. ;)

At the rate I'm going, though, the E-1 will be my 10-year digital camera...
