Thanks Orin for your reply. It told me there was a problem with the 
3265. I took it apart this morning and it had been greased in all the 
wrong places. I cleaned the grease out, roughed up the cup, and then 
greased only where required. I was also able to adjust about half the 
gap between grip lever and body out. It will now hold the 300mm, I sure. 
I'm still not comfortable with the grip, so the offer still stands. I'll 
use it till I get a replacement.
