Ali, the L-brackets made by RRS and Kirk have half dovetail grooves in each
side of them which are clamped into an Arca-Swiss style clamp. The L-bracket
would not fit directly into the Manfrotto quick release but a small
Arca-Swiss style clamp could be attached to one of the Manfrotto quick
release plates (or a 1/4 x 20 tripod screw) enabling you to use essentially
any of the RRS, Kirk, Acratech, Arca-Swiss style equipment. The rigidity of
your setup would probably be limited by how well the Manfrotto head clamps
its own adapter plate. A Manfrotto tripod head without a quick release would
probably provide a more secure attachment for a Arca-Swiss style clamp.

My limited experience is that even a small Arca-Swiss style clamp is more
rigid than a Manfrotto quick release or even a 1/4 x 20 screw pulling the
camera/lens up against a rubber surface.

The Manfrotto quick release doesn't lend itself to working with an
L-bracket. I've never seen an L-bracket offered by Manfrotto. Some of the
panoramic tripod head vendors may offer an L-bracket that could be used by
attaching a Manfrotto quick release plate to both sides of the L.

Referring back to the alternative head: I had a magnesium version that was
very similar to the 3025. It was quite nice with a light camera but it
couldn't hold enough weight to use with any significant telephoto.

Unless you want to spend $$ for a RRS head...the 322rc2 is a great head.
Many of the photographers that I venture out with prefer this head over
anything else. With the "222" pistol it is difficult to quickly move the
camera to vertical. It will also move on you if your not careful.

BTW does Manfrotto make decent 'L' brackets? or should I look into an L
bracket from RRS? Will the RRS bracket work on the 322rc2?
