He tells me that, as a young lad, he had a dream that he would live
until age 98. He still has 10 more years to go and is determined to get
there. Maybe so. His grandfather died at age 95. But not from old age
and infirmity. He died of gangrene contracted in his foot after
dragging a dory out of the water and accidentally dropping it on his
foot. He refused to let the doctor amputate his foot and died as a result.
