My first memory of the list and the rich source of info it brought me is
this page <http://brashear.phys.appstate.edu/lhawkins/photo/photo.shtml>

The photo there "Waban Fall" (C) 1995 by R. Lee Hawkins was there when I
joined the list so I couldn't have been there before 1995 but it
probably wasn't much later than that. I would guess I have been here at
least 12 years.

I had owned and used an OM-1 since about 1976 and about 1990 I bought my
first OM-2s, second hand from a private party. After using it a few
times and discovering the battery to be dead every time I wanted to use
it I figured that I had bought a pig-in-a-poke and relegated the body to
a closet for many years. I assumed the body had a short circuit
somewhere. Then I found the Olympus list and discovered that OM-2s and
(original) OM-4 bodies draw a fair amount of current even when "off"
since there is no such thing as off. I discovered the shutter release
voltage minimum voltage requirement (2.2v IIRC) and the need to always
use silver oxide batteries instead of alkaline. What a revelation! I
started using my OM-2s again and even my OM-1 and bought a few lenses.
Needless to say, I've acquired a whole lot more than that over the
intervening years. But I don't have dupes of anything much except 50mm
lenses and T32s. :-)
