Again, I think we will have to wait for Sony and Panasonic to lead the way
on this. They've used blinking and zebra highlights in video cameras for
decades.  Canon too,

I must be the odd-man out on this one.  I'm usually much more concerned with
where the midtones land than where the highlights fall.  It is a given that
in a high contrast scene you will experience blown highlights or blocked up
shadows somewhere. But if you chase the highlights, this forces a 100%
exposure repair in post-processing.  There are times when you do want to
protect the highlights, but not at the expense of the rest of the image.

I am a bit strong on this subject because I prefer to work in a "calibrated"
environment where I can shoot in-camera and know exactly what is going to
come out the other end of the process and not have to recreate the
visualization that occured on-location.
