I'll just add to Jim's comment on Epson. I have a cheap Epson C84
(under $100) that I've been using also for about 4 years. Mostly it
just works. If I've let is set a long time (like a month) without
printing I'm liable to find the red nozzle partially clogged and I need
to run a cleaning cycle. I once let it go for many months without
printing and the red nozzle was totally clogged. I took a wet cotton
swab (water) and pressed it onto the nozzles on the cartridge for a few
seconds and then let it set for a while. After running a cleaning cycle
all was well again. It doesn't have any CD printing capability though.
  Maybe the next printer.
