Well, when I go to organizer, navigate to the folder with the ORF files
in it, the option to "open" is ghosted out.
AHA! I have to select "get media".
Now they opened.

Working within Organizer to import images into ACR, making adjustments
that I want, then selecting "done" takes me back to organizer. From
there I chose "file" ---> "export as new file". Somewhat slow, but
faster than opening and saving in editor. Organizer crashed once doing this.

Also, from ACR, to save as jpegs, I can open them in editor (very slow
going) and then simply "save as" jpeg. Again, rather slow process, one
at a time, but no crashing this way.

However, now, saving them as jpegs, they all look like this, *warning
large file*:

16 bit or 8 bit, same thing. I'm not seeing any settings to change that
nor any mention of it on Adobe's online help documents.
