Not sure about Math(s), but I definitely extend that argument to... computer
science ;^)
BTW, the plural/singular debate with Mathematics reminds me of a similar
problem in Spanish: the "formal" name/spelling of this discipline is
'Matemática' (singular form, from 'La ciencia...') but in common usage (esp.
suffering children) it goes 'Matemáticas' (plural form), even "Las Mates" in
short.
