Sorry, I should have said brighten the shadows and I would suggest the 
PS shadow/highlight control if you have it.  The images I'm concerned 
with are the roof lines in the forbidden city.  There is a lot of detail 
hidden in shadow under the eaves that can be readily displayed.  Your 
eyes probably saw it but the camera is not so facile without a little help.
