Following some discussion here I finally got around to checking the
three OM adaptors I own.
The Olympus MF-1 has steel springs just like the OM camera mount.
Locks in firmly and there is no play, rotational or otherwise.

Another is chrome plated brass body with a steel mount insert - the
whole body is flat sided and has groups of lines cut into it at
intervals (hopeless grip). It is heavy, tight fitting and has no play
in either dimension. Got it here -

The third is black alumin(i)um with a raised, knurled, narrow grip.
It's a snug fit but has about 1mm rotational play - but only if you're
trying! This type but not this seller -

Both the third party adaptors lack springs but have a thin cut in each
of the three flanges (centre, half length) which is opened slightly so
that it acts as a spring grip.
The chrome adaptor is more expensive, looks cruder but is better made
- it is blacked inside and more convenient as you can see it in place
on the lens.
