Looks like the only standard use for which they may be indicated is flash.

At that, I'd probably stay away from cheaper/older flashes, where 
inadequate regulation might overcharge the flash capacitor at a fully 
charged voltage of over 1.8v. With low internal resistance and that 
voltage, it might cause problems with other parts of a flash.

Turbo battery packs powering a flash through circuitry designed for them 
may be a different kettle of fish from dropping these babies in an old 
flash with already aged capacitor and/or charging circuit designed for 
much lower voltage.
