I have both the old and new versions. It probably only cost me $50 extra to
get the new version in a 2 lens kit with the E-510. Anyhow, I can't really
tell the difference between them from the images however the build quality of
the old version seems better, it's bigger, heavier and has a metal lens mount.
On the other hand the 14-42 is sharper than the old 14-45.
