The light bulb came on early this morning and I think I know what you mean.  

When I was writing about Shadow Adjustment Technology (SAT), I was not thinking 
about the camera's adjustment of shutter or aperture.  I meant that RAW files, 
as read by Aperture, will not include the settings for sharpening, contrast or 
saturation etc ...

I don't know if SAT adjusts shutter or aperture, but the effect of that change 
would be obvious in Aperture's preview images.
