Thanks for the link, Charlie, very interesting, and new to me.  The
Telegraph article is from 2002, and things have moved on apace, documented

And by some strange coincidence, the same Gavin Menzies is speaking today
(in 4 hours' time) at the Royal Geographical Society in London - transcript
here:
