Ken,
You are a professional photographer, you know better than to buy a camera
based on resale value. Lets put it in real perspective. That $2000 digital
camera will have no resale value but will make you tens of thousands of
dollars in the time you use it. The OM-3Ti will too, but it too will have
little resale if you really use it, cause you'll wear it out or it'll be
beat up looking at the end. These are tools for you and I, not toys as they
are for collectors and dentists who buy then cause they have the $$$ (A
phenomenon common in the world of Leicas and Hasselblads too). Tools are an
investment because you'll make money from the work you do with them, not
because you will ever sell them.
Its kind of like buying stocks. Back when people were sane, they bought
stock in companies that would make a profit cause the dividends they
received were the payoff from the investment. Now, no one gives a damn about
that, they just want the stock price to go up constantly and so the
companies don't bother paying dividends. Instead they focus on shortsighted
immediate gains to bolster the stock price to levels higher than it should
be based on the real value of the company.
