That is my premise exactly. While a good idea in therory it is far too 
cerebral as it was implemented. It should have been turned over to a 
sailor or a carpenter or a farmer to determine the basic meter. I 
suspect it would have turned out to resemble a fathom. Outstretched 
arms, one pace (left, right, left) Kings are a useful standard of 
measure if for nothing else. The resulting divisions of a meter would be 
much more practical IMHO. I'm not talking about the macro or micro world.

Each other. Being convenient to farmers and surveyors...unlike meters. A 
rod would equal 2 of "Mike's meters". See above :-)
