I've never heard anyone say you shouldn't use the viewfinder illuminator. It
was put there to be used! Your camera has a bad circuit board, most likely,
and if that's the case it is not fixable. John will pop in I'm sure and
correct me If I am wrong but I am sure he's said before that no parts for
the electronics on the OM-2S are available.
