That undoubtedly worked well for Ian's saturated tricycle.  If it 
doesn't work for your case (color/s too complex) and you need to go to 
PhotoShop to be able to paint/mask layers you might try PhotoShop 
Elements since the latest version is actually quite capable.  On the 
other hand I don't know that PSE is actually available for Mac.
