[OM] Spots (OT)

Okay, so for a month now I've been locked in hand-to-hand combat with
Epson Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper. It's a mother-beautiful paper, but
finicky as hell, at least from my point of view. I have spots. They
won't be on the print when it comes out of the printer. They won't be
on the print when it sits outgassing under a sheet of sketch paper.
They won't be on the print when it's slipped into the mat. But when
the glass goes on and I hold up the print for final inspection before
sealing the frame, THERE THEY ARE!!!!!!

And they won't brush off. (I say they, but sometimes it's only one.)
Which leads me to believe they're tiny flecks in the paper which have
come off revealing the white beneath, and thus there's nothing to
brush off. Now, the tricky part is that they are virtually invisible
from any viewing distance greater than the length of this
photographer's nose (which some might say is a prodigious distance. <g>)

Those of you who regularly do exhibition prints. How anal are you
about tiny spots on your prints under glass? My wife tells me that if
they are not visible from the proper viewing distance, they are not
visible. But somehow I can't buy that. If I can see them, they aren't
supposed to be there. Currently, I've got an 8x20-inch print that's on
its fourth run because of spotting. One one of them, the first one, I
saw the spot right off. On the subsequent two, I brushed the paper
before putting in printer. The spots were not there until the print
was in the frame.

On the fourth, I've tried Premier Art's spray, thinking it might help
keep those flecks of inked paper in place. But I won't know until I
try to frame it up again tomorrow or the next day.

Did I mention each one of those sheets cost a gooch less than $4?

So, Chris, Ken, Chuck et alia, any good dust stories, and
remedies . . . ?
