Wow, what a scare! I'm glad it turned out well.

I haven't posted for a couple of days because one of my sisters in law
just had a serious scare and is lucky she listened to her instinct to
get a blood test when she went in with my brother for one for him.

Long, scary story, with a semi happy ending. Turns out she has end stage
kidney disease. Her father and brother suffered and died from that, so
she has been trying to be vigilent, but it is almost entirely symptom
free until quite serious.

So this morning, she had a shunt put in her chest and had her first
dialysis treatment. They are doing it gently, over three days, to avoid
shocking the rest of her system.

People can live with this for decades, and her prognosis is excellent.
Hers didn't manifest until almost 20 years later than her relatives and
they were very reluctant, recalcitrant patients, whereas she will take
proper care of herself.

So she should live and be healthy for a long time, but her flexibility
will be limited in many ways by the continuing need for artificial blood
cleansing. Looks like she may qualify for the kidney transplant list,
too early to know for sure, but that's a long wait and a temporary fix.
Still, even a few years of freedom would be a big gift.
