I take responsibility for a lot of false hopes mixed with a dash of
foolishness, but if the economy hadn't tanked, we wouldn't be in this
situation -- the old "find a greater fool" syndrome that underlies all
economic bubbles, I guess.

I've been pouring myself into this situation, with little time for
other things. I don't think I've taken a picture *just for fun* in
several years.

The good news is that I'm hanging on to my E-3 and most macro stuff.
That aught to be good for some serious introspection some day, and
might actually put food on the table -- we all know that the key to
making money at photography is specialization. Now to build a
clientele who have tiny little things to photograph... :-)

It came down to, "Am I going to shoot 35mm film again?" And I
seriously had to answer, "Probably not." I sold $500 worth of outdated
35mm film to a high school kid for $50, along with a bulk loader, some
carts, and a neg strip proofer and some darkroom stuff. Hope she has
fun with it!

So far, I think I'm keeping the Linhof Super Technika and other 4"x5"
stuff. That's different enough from modern digital photography to make
it worth keeping, I guess. Or not... anyone interested?

We talk about the state's attempts to ban the sale of raw milk, and a
proposed labeling regulation that would require raw milk producers to
label each bottle, "WARNING: This raw milk producit is unpasteurized
and may contain disease-causing bacteria..." Other food -- hamburgers,
chicken, commercial dairy products -- can contain disease-causing
bacteria. These products are not required to carry a label declaring
them dangerous. It is ludicrous to require producers of high quality
raw milk to label their products in a way that is more likely to put
them out of business than to protect anyone. -- Ron Schmid
