The 5D Mk II is a bit more informative about live view operation than
the Oly manuals but still incomplete. The description about AF
operation in live view explicitly states that, when using the normal
phase detection AF sensor (called quick focus) that the live view screen
will be blocked out when the exposure is taken and then live view will
return. Presumably this does not happen when using manual or contrast
detection "live mode" focusing but is not explicitly stated.

Exposure control, however, is only vaguely discussed although it's clear
that both manual and autoexposure control are available. Metering mode
is restricted to "evaluative" (matrix method) in live view and (no idea
why) "center weighted" in movie mode which is another live view mode.
It would appear (but it's not clear at all) that, when using an auto
exposure mode, the exposure is set when live view is first turned on.
This is implied but not stated by the existence of the live view
"metering timer" setting. Unfortunately, there is no description of the
metering timer or its settings or why you would want to use it anywhere
in the manual.

So it appears the the Canyon 5D Mk II does not actuate the mirror when
in live view mode combined with either manual focus or live view
focusing mode as long as it's also in manual metering mode or the
autoexposure metering timer has not run out. But that's not 100% clear.

One thing that was explicitly stated, however, is that (when in
"exposure simulation" mode) the camera attempts to moderate the screen
brightness in live view such that what you see is indicative of what the
exposure would look like and that the screen brightness will also react
to the exposure compensation dial when in an AE mode.
