Both 40D and 5D II working in the same way:

At liveview mode with manual focus, the mirror is always in the up position.
When you press the shutter release the shutter operate, LCD black out, after
exposure LCD screen return (the mirror do not move). Same sequence with CCD
contrast AF. If my memory serve me well, in normal focus (fast) mode, when
you press the shutter release the mirror down and AF sensor do the focus
then mirror up again for exposure and it stay in up position ready for next
shoot.

The E-3 and E-520 I had need a mirror bounce even with manual focus lenses
at liveview mode. When pressing the shutter release, the mirror will go down
and up for exposure, the loud mirror sound and delay is very annoying.

Since you've been churning all this up, I do wish that this is how Oly
LV worked. It would be nice if Ling or one of our other resident
OM-5DmkII shooters would chime in to confirm or deny.

Oly effected "exposure simulation" on the E-3 (it's not on either of
my other LV cameras, 330 and 410). It's the bee's knees.
