Nice selection, Nathan. Couple of points.

That ain't the castle. It's the back of the Scottish Government Admin
buildings on Calton Hill. The crenelated parts are the old armoury /
magazine, I think. I'd have to look that up, to my shame. The tower is
not part of it, it's the One-o'clock Ball, which drops simultaneously
with the gun. It was a visual sign of the official time to ships in the
Firth. Recently refurbished.

The parliament building is made from pretty good materials, but it was
built in the wrong place for political reasons, and the cost was not
unreasonable given the quality. No-one questions the cost of additional
office space built for Westminster, in London, at far greater cost. This
is a Parliament, not office accomodation for Civil Servants!

I'm sure Glasgow would be more interesting. Having said that, there are
two places in Scotland I have been physically assaulted; Bainsford (two
miles from home) and Glasgow (four times). I go there to shop,
in-and-out style, never socialise there, never there in the evenings any
more. All attacks were unprovoked. I used to live in Edinburgh, for
seven years plus. Safe as houses, in my experience. YMMV.

I've not been paying much attention on the list recently as mum was in
hospital with a blood clot, and as the only visiting relative I was run
off my feet, plus looking after the cat... now preparing for holiday in
Malcesine (Lake Garda) and fretting over mother's care and what camera
stuff to take...
