I'd like to try a modern E ring flash setup, though it probably
wouldnt make much difference to the results.

Live views not to bad once you get use to zooming in/out
but if there is enough light I dont bother with it, which for most
of my shots there is. So to me Live View is something I only
look at if the view finder is to dark. Though if I put myself in
a position were I couldnt use the view finder, then theres not
much choice really is there :-)
