[OM] ( OM ) TOPE and its future

I did not see Olaf's request until the Digest came here after 10.15pm NZ
time; 105 minutes ago. So, lack of interest through what might seem like a
tardy response was actually nothing of the sort. By choice I do not get OM
contributions in a steady ( or not) stream during the day or night, but all at
once in the Digest.

I enjoy taking part in the TOPE exhibitions; there aren't very many I've
missed since I have been a member of this great community.

Sometimes it's a bit awkward to meet the criteria; but I found it just the same
with the recent Photo and Video International exhibition which, with a bit of
thinking outside the square, I was able to support within the allowed time-
frame. Everybody who took part found it a challenge. Incidentally, that
competition is being judged right now by an independent professional
photographer who has a high reputation here in NZ. The prize is one of the
new-ish D-OM cameras that have been high in the discussions recently.

I really do enjoy seeing the contributions to TOPE. Quite a lot of the
contributors never show us their photos on any other site. It's great to see
what they can produce when they make the effort.

TOPE requires me to take photos of topics I might not otherwise bother with.
And I'm the better off for having a shot at the topic.

I would certainly appreciate more comments on my shots; some that I
thought would for sure get a comment didn't even draw one. For example
the one - what was it? A dogs eye view? I thought I'd been very creative,
and not one remark one way or another :-(

Other than the Solstice exhibitions that Steve Dropkin and I used to run, and
before him the architect from Chicago who migrated to MF ( name escapes
me right now), there is as far as I'm aware, no forum where specifically OM
users can show-case their work. Has our pride and the joy of using OM
gear waned so much that we want to let it fade from sight?

I'm very grateful to Olaf for hosting and running the TOPEs. I know from first
hand experience what is involved in this kind of dedication.

I'd be sorry to see it go to just two a year; as it is it's not many. It's not
as
though it's once a month !!

If Ken is happy to take over, well that would be just great. Thanks for the
offer, Ken.

My 2+ cents.

Brian Swale.
