Hey Boris,

The fog/sun cycle is moving toward sun. The last 2-3 days have had increasing
afternoon sun, which will continue until
we have a few fully sunny days, probably starting Saturday. Then one day,
whoomph, the fog will come in with a vengeance
one late afternoon and the cycle goes on. It's that way all summer here, driven
by inland temperatures. It'll get to the
low 70s today, probably low 80s Sun/Monday.

The nicest weather here and the whole NorCal coast is Spring and Fall, when
there are also fewer folks out crowding
things. We generally do the coast in spring, when the wildflowers are so
abundant, New England in early Fall, when the
weather/crowding/bug index is optimal, then back to Calif. late in the year.

Some of the best weather on our coast is between winter storms. This year, we
slipped in a couple of late winter trips,
to the coast N. and S. of here, in March, catching brief windows between
storms. It can be warmer between storms on the
N. coast in the dead of winter than high summer fog days, with the same air
temp., but less wind. An occasional visit
during a full blown storm is spectacular, with the huge surf crashing against
rugged cliffs.

The Pacific around here is too cold and generally too rough for my enjoyment.

Not this year. Some years, we visit family in Brooklyn, so end up driving
Boston-NY in one direction or the other, which
might make a RI visit practical. Unfortunately, it also about doubles our
travel expenses, as we have to pay for lodging
there. In E. Ma. and Maine, we stay with friends and family. In several lengthy
visits, we've only stayed one night in a
motel when the schedule got screwy - and it was WAY cheaper up by Moosehead
than anyplace in Brooklyn. So this year, no NY.

As to "real" New England, I'll let you folks sort that out. I know Bob refers
to his State as Occupied Canada, so he
probably won't argue much. We will be spending time with friends and family in
Brookline and two small towns outside
Boston. That seems sufficiently "heart of NE" for me.
