   Thanks for posting Patrick, those are amazing photos, Kodachrome I
assume. I must forward to my Dad (born 1928); I noticed in the photos
something he has told me over the years: probably half the children he knew
had no shoes. My Dad was lucky as my grandfather had a job during the
Depression.
  A few random observations: as bad as things were for most people it was
even worse for people of color. I've been to one place mentioned: St. Helena
Island. Also having lived near Buffalo for six years I drove past the
empty/idle steel mills in Lackawana (miles and miles of factory). It was
interesting to see what an active one looked like.
