Suppose you want a couple AF zooms for a brand C Zuiko body:

24-70mm f2.8 L $1,349 2.1 lbs
70-200mm f2.8L ii $2,299 3.3 lbs
5Dii $2,499 1.8 lbs
Total $5,972 7.2 lbs

If you are going to carry Zuikos with it, slow AF zooms may not be too
appealing so yes I've shown "fast kit zooms". With this cost, weight, and
size no one will think of this as an OM. Olympus shouldn't compete directly.
Olympus should focus on small high quality alternatives. A really nice near
pro level E410 size body, light weight (plastic) weather resistant high
quality zooms, would be a nice alternative.

Canon isn't sleeping in the lens area: a shift 17mm, a 100mm macro with IS
intended for macro, re-tuned zooms all with nice high price tags. They are
capturing attention.

For me Olympus's apparent decision made at the time of the E1 that a small
camera doesn't appear professional was their biggest mistake. If necessary
they could have come out with a 4 lb $15,000 E-1Ds to appease those
management/marketing staff needing a professional appearance while making
and selling many more small digital OMs.

On a personal note, I am greatly saddened by all this. As you know,
I've been a loyal Olympus "fanboy" to a fault. I have no intentions of
ever giving up on the OM gear, that's for sure, but as far as anything
digital? When it comes time for me to buy my next camera(s), they'll
be compatible with my OM Zuikos, but the brandname won't say Olympus.
I've been abandoned twice. m43? Not a chance. I won't be abandoned by
this company again. Once converted to Brand-X (I think it's pretty
easy to figure out which one that is going to be), there is no turning
back.
