With liveview there is a significant delay because of the shutter
doing a two-step dance when you press the shutter release. If the
camera has to verify focus inbetween the delay gets even longer.
Activating IS does induce additional latency. How much latency is
totally dependant on the camera model itself. I learned years ago to
have the IS turned on with the half-press in my A1, as that would
significantly reduce latency. With my L1, You have to have it set as
exposure only, in spite of the delay because the stabilizing optics
quickly run out of range and it bumps up against the edge of the range
during the exposure.
IS on the OM-4Ti doesn't work well at all, so it is disabled all the time.
Another issue you are most likely running into is the additional
noises, flashes and other disturbances eminating from the camera prior
to the actual picture being taken. All that has a profound affect on
the pictures as the subjects blink, turn away or grin up the camera.
Last night I photographed a party with both the OM-4T/35-80/md2 and
the OM-3Ti/50mm. No flash for either, just size, shape and sound were
the only differences. Quite the interesting experience. I could get
away with murder with the latter camera. The 4T kit was highly
intrusive.
