I have a Palm Centro which actually is the second best cellphone I've ever
had. I had an old Sanyo that was exceptional. I used and abused that thing
for as long as I could, but we went to another plan which kinda forced me
into getting a new phone. A couple phones later, this "obsolete" Centro is
among the best cellphones I've had the priveledge of using. It sounds great
(which is very unusual these days) and has exceptional battery life.

But, I have to deal with Sprint. Sprint is a miserable affair and you want
to just cuss them out every chance you get--until you realize that it's
actually a better situation for you than the two big boys. I believe the
entire communications industry is screwed up when it comes to billing.

The phones we have now, have the little Micro SD slots in them. If we did
away with our data plans, I'd use that slot for transferring images from the
phone. Or, I could use the infrared port on it too. When I set the phone
down in front of my work laptop computer, it automatically recognizes the
phone and I can transfer files right there. Oh, and then there is the
Bluetooth support which does the same thing.

I've discovered over the past 10 years of cellphone ownership and usage that
not all phones are created equal. LG phones are an ergonomic disaster. The
Motorola Razer has a clutzy interface, Samsung phones have poor range and
Sanyo phones are feature poor, but have better sound, battery life and
range.
We're a family of four, and all of us share a family plan with all the
trimmings. There is nothing missing. About $180 per month (choke, gasp,
etc.), but when you consider that for two of us, it's offset by business
writeoffs, and that we are able to maintain all possible modes of
communications with a couple of teenage daughters, it's priceless.

As always, YMMV.
