Will the rewind knob move smoothly regardless?
If I recall correctly, there is an interlock of some form between the
rewind knob and the back. In fact, mine won't even open right now. But
I think there was something gummed up there that prevented the knob
from turning on mine.
Otherwise, the pressure-plate sounds like a plausable issue.
